Just Moved, Looking For Work, Frustrated!

My honey and I recently moved to Southern Louisiana from Southern California, and I am absolutely thrilled that we did. We moved from City Life to Rural, Farming Life… which has been interesting, yet fun.  No, I’m not doing any farming YET, but it is a venture that we are looking into for the future.

Back Story:  We have been struggling since early 2008 to find steady, long-term work, only to find a temporary position for 2 to 3 months.  Both of us have had 3 jobs in the past 4.5 years, and that just does NOT look good on your resume.  I’m sure you’ve had family and friends tell you, “just take what you can find, and then look for something you want later”, but that’s just lip service.  They don’t realize just how employers look at your resume and how many recent jobs you have had.  The more companies you have worked for, in a short amount of time, looks HORRIBLE.  Companies either want people for long-term, or they want someone disposable; If they see you have previously been disposable, they WILL continue the trend.

Back On Topic: My honey found a part-time position with UPS, which is great, but he has YET to actually start working.  With Hurricane Sandy messing up the East Coast, UPS isn’t having as many deliveries as they normally would.  So.. minor set back, right?  I’m still currently looking for work, so I’m hoping and praying that I can find something soon.  We’ve been down here since Sept. 12, so we haven’t been ‘readily available to work’ for too long, but it’s long enough that it’s making me worry.  I’ve been keeping a positive look on life, and will continue to do so.  I’m just thinking that the winds of change need to come soon!!  Wish us luck!
